Choi Sung-won (184 cm, G) is having an adjustment period with Jeonggwanjang.
Anyang Jungkwanjang lost 82–84 to Goyang Sono in a regular season game of the 2023–2024 Korean Basketball League at Anyang Indoor Gymnasium on Thursday.
With the loss, the Anyang Jungkwanjang dropped to 2–3, tied for sixth place with Suwon KT.
The game started with some early struggles for the Sono. They started the game with a fast-motion offense in front of Park Ji-hoon (184 cm G) and Lens Abando (188 cm F), but lapses in defense led to easy baskets for Sono’s Lee Jung-hyun (186 cm G) and Jeon Sung-hyun (188 cm F), and they trailed 45–54 after two quarters.
After the third quarter, Daryl Monroe came back into the game and Jung Hyo-geun added to the scoring, turning the tide to make it 70–69. However, an offensive foul on Abando in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter denied them the chance to win the game.
In the midst of a disappointing loss, Chung’s main concern was the performance of new recruit Choi Sung-won. Choi played 25:17 on the night, scoring four points and dishing out three assists. Notably, all four of his points came from free throws and he shot 0% (0/5) from beyond the arc, which is his strong suit.
Choi, who came in for Abando with 4:05 left in the first quarter, attempted a three-pointer but missed, and fouled Jeon Sung-hyun on defense, allowing a three-point basket count.
In the second quarter, Choi started at two-guard alongside Park Ji-hoon and was involved in the offense and looked good until he made an assist with a direct pass to Jung Hyo-geun (202 cm, F) in a fastbreak situation with 8:37 left, but after that, he struggled on offense and was replaced by Park Ji-hoon.
Choi’s shooting was also poor in the third and fourth quarters. After being substituted in the middle of the third quarter, Choi had an open three-point shot on a fast break, but it missed the rim. Despite missing, he drew a foul on Sono Stablewook with 1:07 left in the third quarter and made the free throw to help Jeong Kwan-jang pull within 70–69.
In the fourth quarter, Choi was unable to prevent his team’s defeat in a tight game, as he made only two free throw attempts and missed them.
Head coach Kim Sang-sik is well aware of Choi’s struggles. “I’m telling him to be confident, but he needs to work hard,” Kim said in a postgame interview.
Choi is averaging 5.4 points and three assists in the first five games of the season. However, he still needs to 카지노사이트 work on his field goal percentage, which is only 17.1% (6/35). Choi, who signed a three-year, 400 million won deal as a free agent ahead of this season, has yet to show the explosive scoring ability he showed with SK last season.
In order for Choi to become a free agent paragon, he needs to integrate the psychological aspect into Chung’s tactics, which are based on motion offense. Choi’s exit from the slump is directly related to Chung’s performance.
